Glen P Carter
Dr. Glen Carter is a Senior Research Fellow and Laboratory Head in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Peter Doherty Institute for Infection and Immunity, University of Melbourne. He is an expert on the use of small animal models and multi-omics techniques to study enteric and multi-drug resistant organisms (MDROs) at the molecular level. Dr. Carter's research program encompasses three primary areas of investigation: unravelling the molecular mechanisms underlying resistance to last-resort antimicrobials; investigating the role of the gastrointestinal microbiome in establishing colonisation resistance against invading pathogens, including MDROs; and developing novel small molecule antimicrobials. More broadly, his work aims to translate fundamental discoveries in microbiology into practical strategies to prevent and treat difficult-to-manage infections. Through this research, he hopes to develop new therapeutic approaches to address the growing global challenge of antimicrobial resistance.
